The first season of Ten Haag’s tenure in Manchester United was like a fairytale, a Champion’s league finish, two cup finals and a trophy for Manchester United after 5 years. It genuinely seemed like he was the second coming of a certain Scottish Figure that elevated the standards of the club into unparalleled heights in the English game. An element of self-belief and high hopes were once again restored in the Theatre of dreams. The Dutchman was flying. But to everyone’s disbelief, the honeymoon period didn’t translate into a happy marriage.
No one knows what went wrong for Erik and his boys, but it’s safe to say that the last 15 months have been astronomically poor for a club like Manchester United. Fans are divided on their opinions of Ten Haag. A section of the Old Trafford faithful are done with Ten Haag and are demanding the sack while a vast Majority of them are still of the believe that Ten Haag is the man to take them forward. Their major argument being , “ The endless cycle of sacking managers ’’ is not beneficial to the club. But the question is “ How long are the fans supposed to be validating Erik’s Credibility on the two trophies that he has won ?”.
The major concern regarding Ten Haag is the fact that despite being in charge of the team for more than 2 seasons, he still has not been able to implement his style of play. The same mistakes over and over again, lapse in defensive focus, unable to convert chances. A minus goal difference in his second season in the league finishing 8th, knocked out of the UCL in the group stages. All of these are signs of a manager nearing the sack but all of the stars aligned for Ten Haag when he defeated Man City in the FA cup Final and avoided the sack.
He is now into his third season, he has lost 3 games, drawn 1 and won only 2 in his first 6 games in the league. He failed to win in the Europa league against Twente, his former club.
Despite spending half a billion in the transfer market, Ten Haag has nothing concrete to show for. If things don’t improve Metamorphically, the inevitability of the sack is prominent.
